13 Flashers

There are some seriously cool people doing Flash Fiction these days. By Flash I mean the really short stuff people post on their blogs. Here are 13 I swiped from:

1. G-Man, also known as Mr. Knowitall, has got to be the kick ass king of flashers. He hosts the hub for the Flash Fiction 55 meme. You’re supposed to write a story in 55 words. Here’s one of his:

Leaving the 30 year Rat Race behind, Larry retired to isolated bucolic bliss. But 10 months later, extreme boredom set in.
.
(Knock .. Knock)
.
(STARTLED….He opens his door)
.
“Howdy, I’m your neighbor Jimbo…
Big Shindig Friday… Drinkin, Dancin, Wild Sex, can you attend”?
.
‘Gladly Jimbo…Is it Formal’?
.
“Don’t matter…Just be us two”!

2. If G-Man is the king, then Monkey Man is a prince. He hosts the 160 Fiction meme. Nope, you don’t write a story in 160 words. You do it in 160 characters! We’re talking something that would fit into a text message. Here’s one of his:

“If you could ask me to grant you one wish,
what would it be?” he asked his wife.
“To love me at the end of the day
no matter what,” she replied.

“As you wish.”

3. Nessa has a meme of her own, but it’s for longer stuff and I can’t handle something like that on top of Suzie’s House and writing novels. Still, she finds time to flash.

As an human animal, you would not consider the dirty puddle of water in my pool cover a highly valued summer vacation spot but others with truly discriminating tastes know better. I just have to make sure my husband can not find the key to the gun case while Mr. and Mrs. Mallard are visiting.

4. Patti is a bit like me with all kinds of stuff going on during the week. This is from the middle of a series she has going:

The old guy decided to travel
Before all of his parts came unraveled
So off to the Keys he went
And he got a small cottage to rent
Then to the nude beach he ambled.

5. Moondust Writer Gets to the point in 160 characters:

Turn Around – one more time.

There you might find the face of a friend.
Don’t Let Go!
She’s Intent on making your life a little better
over the course of Forever.

6. The Thirteenth Crossing

“So five minutes ago I was standing at work and thinking about what to write for my Theme Thursday. Then it hit me.”, I said. ‘What hit you?”, you asked. “That it is not Thursday anymore. That it is already Friday and worse yet Friday began at 8:00 P.M. Thursday night and I missed it.”

7. Vodka Logic

My life has led me
Down such paths,
Full of sorrow,
Lots of laughs.

All have taught me
Many things.
To take it all,
What my life brings.

With the ups
Comes the downs.
Many smiles
Mixed with frowns.

Walk with me
Let’s choose these paths
And together explore
As we travel through, lifes grandeur.

8. Brian Miller, Poet extraordinaire

under a sea of stars
he vaulted the door
landing in her backseat
leaving her date
speechless &

a few years later
they had me.

this crazy kinda love,
i get it honest.

9. I haven’t known Stan Ski long, but I’m liking what I’m seeing.

Slash and burn; erase
No trace of harvest remains
Rice field, now meadow

10. Akelamalu

“Come Home Jeannie” Colin pleaded to his missing wife, on the television appeal.
“If you know where Jeannie is please ring this number.”
She’d been missing for months and he hadn’t heard a thing.
“It must be awful for that poor man” said Ben
“I don’t know what I’d do if you disappeared.”
Jeannie smiled.

11. Janna in her Jannaverse

“I want a blue giraffe for our anniversary,” Helen said. “And he should speak Gaelic.”

“But that’s impossible,” Mark protested. “There’s no such thing.”

“In that case, I want you to cook dinner, vacuum the carpet, and pick up all your dirty underwear every day.”

Mark sighed.
“I’ll go talk to the zookeeper tomorrow afternoon.”

12. Eaton Bennett

The day has turned bleak
like a leaf tossed to and fro in the wind.

Helplessly caught between sky and earth.

Blown off course, lost to a destination, alone,
directionless.

The moment gone – as is the leaf from the
parent tree, restlessly yearning for the
safety of its umbilicus: the nurturing warmth of connection.

13. Titanium

Un-Caffeinated words

Stubborn and slippery
Poised like quicksilver
Threatening to slide
Clean off the page.

Do I write only when
I feel it’s convenient?
When thoughts arrive
Coherent and dressed
For the right occasion?

Or do I gently open
A door, on hinges creaking,
And let sleepless words
With hair askew
Say what they will?

Again, this is just the tip of the iceberg for wonderful writers on the internet.
