Hush Puppies

2 c corn meal
1 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbs sugar
1/2 c milk
3/4 c water
1/2 c cooking oil
1 egg

Combine dry ingredients, mixing well. Add remaining ingredients, stirring until smooth. Drop by tablespoon full into hot oil. Give it a minute or two, then turn. Remove from pan, draining oil. Makes a couple dozen.
