Gene ran out to the bottom of the stairs to shout at Ben and Lisa. Since Lisa was working on the music video for them, she counted as an honorary sort of band member and you couldn’t expect Ben to sit out of it when all his friends were there in his house.
“Lisa! Ben! We’re starting.”
“Yeah, we got it.” Ben waved from down the hall.
The two of them had come in from the kitchen. They weren’t upstairs at all. What a clunker.
By the time Gene got back to the den, every seat was filled. Ben and Lisa had squeezed onto the couch so that everyone there was smooshed together. As they spoke, Tracy popped from the seat to the arm rest leaving her spot to Kate and they all breathed a little easier. Bruce was sprawled in one of the loungers. Emma huddled in the other. Justin hid out in the ladder back chair that Drew usually used in front of the little side table. Gene ended up standing in front of the TV cause he wasn’t in the mood to sit on the floor.
“Okay. So. There’s news, I guess.” He scratched the back of his head. “Miranda made a Amazon account for us. It’s username Malaprop and password porpalam123%. So… who wants to run it?”
“I got it!” Both Bruce and Tracy said at the same time. No apathy there.
“So the two of you. That’s… yeah, that’s probably good.” Gene hoped it was a good thing. But probably they’d just fight. At least if they were both officially in charge they should duke it out where the rest of the band wouldn’t have to suffer. Mostly.
“Miranda said she’d change the ads like we wanted. Bruce, she said she’d like to talk to you about it.”
“And me.” Tracy stuck her chin out like she wanted to fight.
“She didn’t say anything about you,” Gene said, earning a glare. He shrugged. It’s not like it had anything to do with him. No way he was going to get between two she-wolves. “The music video?” He turned to Lisa, hoping for rescue.
“I put it on youtube. It got over forty views before Tracy talked me into taking it down again. I’m going to make it better, then try again. Ben’s helping.” She gave Ben’s hand a squeeze. “We’re going to need a lot more footage of all you guys.”
“Yeah. Sure.” Bruce shrugged like it was no big deal.
Emma bit her lip, but nodded.
“Ben and me are still working on the story. I figure it’s going to be a week or two until we’ve got it ready. By then school will start.”
“School!” Kate looked shocked. “Already?”
“Oh!” Emma looked worried. “I totally forgot.”
“Oh, right. School.” Bruce looked peeved.
Justin just nodded, though his big eyes said he’d also forgotten about it. Tracy looked downcast. The only ones in the room who didn’t react to the idea of school starting were Lisa and Ben. Well, good. At least Gene wasn’t the only one who had completely forgotten that they were actually all starting high school soon.
“That means we’re going to have to do most of the filming on weekends. Since it’s going to be out doors, we have to do it right away or the leaves will change before we’re done. And then it won’t look right. So I need everyone here to promise you will give me all of Saturday and Sunday for the next month to make this happen.”
“But our gigs…” Bruce automatically protested.
“If they happen at night it won’t be a problem. Do you, or do you not want a really good music video?” Lisa glared Bruce into submission.
“At least tell them a little about it,” Tracy suggested.
Lisa said a little bit about the story idea and how she thought it would work with what they already had. When she was done, everyone had big eyes and slack jaws.
“That. Is. So. Cool!” Kate squealed.
Tracy nodded like she’d known it all along and took personal pride in her part. Everybody beamed. Even Gene felt like this could be a really good thing.
“Alright. So I guess that’s the last thing we need to talk about right now. I promised to help Mrs. H move some stuff, so I gotta go. Catch you later.”
As he left, everyone was talking about the video. He kind of wanted to stay and listen, be he didn’t want to stand around in front of them like a boss or something. Not that he was bashful or anything. But next time he’d remember to grab a chair from the kitchen and make someone else act like the leader.

Yeah, I’ll be showing the video in a future episode. I thought I’d kind of sprinkle in the making as I go.
I’ll be skipping the Suzie’s House post on Dec 28th for Christmas. Suzie’s House will be back on Jan 4th.
