“I’m proud of you.” Vin stood by their bedroom door with his arms crossed over his chest and a proud smile.
“Yeah? What’s that about?” Miranda refused to look at him any more than she had to. He didn’t need any encouragement if he was going to comment on her character. Instead, she focused on getting her image in the mirror of her vanity and getting the rest of the makeup off her face. This was purely practical. Nothing vain about it.
“I’ll admit I was a bit worried about how it would all work out when you first suggested your music deal to Gene and his band. You’ve really stood by those kids.” He bumped the door behind him so it clicked the rest of the way closed.
“Well, of course.” She shook her hair and raised her chin.
“So, you really will change the ads they object to?” He prowled across the room toward her.
“Yes, of course.” She picked up her brush, took a couple of irritable swipes at her hear, then dropped it again.
Changing the ads was going to be a pain, but a deal was a deal. She had gone back over the contract. They were only required to turn over half the songs they recorded, and had veto power over which it would be. She should have been more careful about the wording. Well, that was what it had taken to get all the necessary signatures. There was no helping it.
If only the kids in the band realized what a service she was rendering them. She gave them instant legitimacy. By the time she was done, everyone in town would recognize their music. Town? Try the whole county!
How was this all so unacceptable to Tracy? Miranda just didn’t get it at all.
As for herself, the used car ads had done so well that she’d gotten a fresh contract and a nice, fat bonus. Of course, she’d have to come up with a different song for the new ones.
She scrubbed her face with a damp wash cloth and sighed. This was going to be such a pain.
“I heard you were even going to help them by setting them up with Amazon to sell their recordings. That was generous of you.”
“Oh! Right! I forgot.” She popped up from her poof seat just as Vin put his hands out for a hug and nearly clipped him in the chin. “Sorry. Just a minute, Honey.”
She grabbed her laptop from her briefcase and sat with it on their bed. When she logged in to Suzie’s hot spot, Vin sat beside her.
“What are you doing?”
“The Amazon thing. I helped a client with it a little while back. It’s easy. I’ll just set them up with an account.
“Wait. Forty dollars a month? Isn’t that a bit much for them to handle? I mean, once you are done with the ads, will you remember to keep that up?”
“No, no. Not Amazon’s regular program. Their consignment program, ‘Advantage’. That’s only a hundred a year. I can spring for that easy enough.” Miranda quickly clicked through the set up menus. She put in her personal credit card and Suzie’s house as the address. “Remind me to give Gene the password so they can deal with the rest themselves.”
“I knew you had it in you.” Vin distracted her with a kiss behind her ear.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She finished off the set up and closed the laptop despite Vin’s many distractions. If she wasn’t wakeful before, she was now.
“Just that I love you very, very much.” He proceeded to show her just how much.
