Suzie’s House 480 : First Appearances

Suzie's House

Bruce was on his way out of Suzie’s house by way of the kitchen when he overheard his music on the TV in the den. Drew had the tube on even though his back was to it. Probably one of those guys who just had to have some kind of sound in the background so he wouldn’t go nuts. Bruce could relate.

The song playing was one of Bruce’s favorites – “I Love You Better”. It was one Tracy wrote, but that didn’t make it any less important to Bruce. Well, maybe a little less, but not by much.

“That was fast,” he muttered to himself. The advertising lady must have grabbed that song as soon as it was recorded to fit it so quickly to any ad. And what an ad. It was for that sleazy used car dealer on the far east end of Madison; the one out past the beltline that always took damage when the tornados hit.

“Hmm?” Drew turned away from his laptop to see who was talking. When he saw Bruce, he swiveled in his seat to see the TV. “Oh. One of Miranda’s ads. Have you seen it before?”

“Nope. She was supposed to let us see all of them so we could veto anything we didn’t like, but I didn’t even hear about this.”

“Uh-oh.” Drew’s expression got real serious real fast.

“It’s okay. I’m not going to sue or anything. Well, I won’t at any rate. I don’t know about how Tracy is going to take this.”

Emma’s voice crooned about who she really loved over the set as the sleaze-ball gestured between two cars and shouted something about how hard it was to choose just one. If Tracy didn’t sue, maybe Emma would. Somehow what was one of his favorite songs had fallen into the toilet.

“It’s a catchy tune,” Drew said as if this made up for everything.

“Yeah. It was.” Bruce wondered if anyone else in the band had seen it yet.

“You’re sure you’re alright with this?” Drew’s forehead wrinkled in concern.

“Yeah. Sure. I mean, I knew it was going to be like this right from the start.” He shook his head to get the fringe of hair out of his eyes. “Nothing comes for free. And we got an album out of the deal. Well, almost. There’s still some stuff Pete wants to do. But it should be soon.”

“So, once you’ve got an album in hand, what are you going to do?” Drew leaned into the back of his chair like he was ready to settle in for a nice, long conversation.

“Just like anyone else – sell it. We’ll offer it at our gigs and around town and on Amazon and stuff. Any place we can, really.”

“That’s a mature attitude.” Drew nodded.

“Yeah. Yeah, sure.” The old guy might think so, but would the band?
