While traveling across the water at high speed, I noticed something odd.
The boat we were one seemed to be made of burlap and paint. In reality there’s a very thin layer of wood inside. I’ve seen wood paneling that was thicker. The wood was then coated in layer after layer of alternating mesh and paint. Part had chipped away in one spot. It was about an eighth of an inch thick.
The boat seemed about as solid and reliable as any other boat I’ve been on. Still, it made me nervous to think how little there was to it. That feeling didn’t improve when we got back to our starting point. At the dock there was a very similar boat that had sunk.
