The final count is in. I took 13,852 pictures on this trip. Most of them are trash. For instance:
1. Most of the time I simply lifted the camera and clicked. No looking through the view finder because there wasn’t time. Often the angles or bad.
2. Blur is my nemesis. Most of the time it isn’t quite this bad, but it happens with about half of the pictures I take. It’s the main reason I take so many.
3. Since I’m taking the pictures from a moving vehicle much of the time, I can’t stop to frame the shots well. This one makes it look like I was after trees and telephone wires. I was shooting for the mural.
4. Light meter issues. I got better at it as we went.
5. I couldn’t always get the right distance. This is a bridge.
6. The camera’s auto-focus goes for whatever is closest even when I use the “dynamic” option. I was going for the MacDonald’s sign.
7. tinted windows, glare and reflections.
8. Wires and trees everywhere.
9. I don’t even know what I was looking at here.
10. I tried to take pictures of each of my meals in leu of counting the calories, but sometimes I was a little slow.
11. Sometimes it’s more impressive in my head.
12. Tips, tilts, just plane golliwompus.
13. Sometimes I tried to take the shot even though it was too dark. I can sometimes pull the shot out with Photoshop. Not always.
All these pictures were taken in the one day we spent in Jakarta. I had originally thought we were flying home by way of Jakarta. Around the middle of Bali something someone said made me check. No such luck. I had only one full day. I would have had two half-days, but a little airline issue that I will discuss Monday came up.
