When Kate woke up, the first thing she saw was the bouquet Justin had given her. It sat on her dresser in a cheap, metallic vase that looked like it was supposed to be polished silver but was probably aluminum. Not exactly the optimal thing for a wedding bouquet, but better than the glass of water she’d started with.
A wedding bouquet! Justin gave her a wedding bouquet! She couldn’t wait to tell….
Who was there to tell? Emma would smile and nod, like a bobble head, but then she’d hear the rest of the story about how he had been forced to catch it at his sister’s wedding and only gave it to Kate because it was his ticket to getting out of the reception so they could go on their date.
He’d looked so embarrassed as he explained the whole thing to her that she was sure it held more meaning than he wanted to admit.
He must really love her.
He was the one who asked her out in the first place. He must have had his eye on her right from the beginning.
The date itself had been okay. He didn’t try to hold her hand in the movie theater, but they shared a thing of popcorn. She had the bouquet in her lap the whole time. It made her embarrassed but kind of excited too when they went into the theater and all those people stared at her and her bouquet.
She wanted to shout to the whole world that this good looking guy next to her had given her a wedding bouquet. But everyone around them must have already figured that out.
Who could she tell? Who? She jumped out of bed and flung herself at her dresser. It would be another hot and muggy day. She picked out a nice pair of shorts and a cami.
Both Katy and Alisha were out of town visiting relatives. She could probably still get them on their cell phones, but then they’d complain about roaming charges. Text them? Where was the fun in that? Well… maybe later.
Tracy? Not a chance. She wouldn’t even do the bobble head thing.
Who could she brag to about this?! All summer long had been one frustration for her after another. All these wonderful things kept happening, but there was never anyone to tell about it!
Well. She could at least get a picture of the bouquet. She pulled on her clothes first, then grabbed her phone and took a selfie of herself in the mirror with the flowers between. She took a look at her stupid grin, then quick took another selfie.
It might only bet texting, but at least she had something to brag about.
