Canada

My mother, daughter, and I went for a little road trip through Canada. We went straight North to Banff, then headed West to Whistler, then a little more West to Vancouver Island. I didn’t check the odometer, but I’m guessing we covered about 3,000 miles in two weeks.

In Banff we mostly saw glaciers, glacier run off, mountains and trees. The photo above was taken there. We stopped off at Lake Louse on the way in, then hit it again the next day. Good thing we stopped the first time because the second day it rained on us all day. So much for our intentions to go canoeing.

Whistler is very Olympics-oriented. We ran across the distinctive rings in several places, and there was a bicycle rally going on. The place is crawling with people engaged in physical activity ranging from golf, to hiking, swimming, and bicycling. We took the ski lifts and gondola rides around the mountains and got a few decent pictures.

On Vancouver Island we visited a restaurant called Goats on the Roof, a parrot sanctuary, a butterfly garden, and some old-growth forest. Then we tried to catch a ferry and missed. To kill time while waiting for the next, we took a tour of Victoria. The area is lovely.

Victoria happens to be the capital of British Columbia. This is their capital building. Our tour guide had a good story about that, but I’ll make you wait to hear it in a later post.

This trip was nothing like my trip to Mongolia. It rained or was over cast much of the time, so my photos aren’t as good, and we didn’t do nearly as much educational stuff. Still, in the next few weeks you can expect some vacation posts. 🙂
