I’ve been moving rather slow the last few days. In January and February I got all kinds of things done. But April is proving a bit of a bust. Luckily I was so effective earlier that I’m not bogged down with taxes this year. Usually I’d be in desperation mode. Maybe that’s why all I feel like doing now is kicking back?
Still, it seemed like things were moving even slower than my personal lethargy would account for. Then I had and epiphany. It isn’t me that’s going so stupidly slow. It’s my antiquated computer. I think it may be time to defrag.
Have you ever defragmented your computer? It isn’t hard, but it’s very slow. My little hard drive doesn’t even have a terabyte of memory. You’d think it wouldn’t be a big deal. But just running a backup takes about four hours. Longer if I’m on the computer while it’s running. I don’t want to think about the poor speed of defragging.
For those scratching their heads right now, defragmenting is where you use a program to re-arrange the data on your hard drive so the parts that should be together are and the erased parts are filled. It speeds things up a bit.
So what do you think the odds are I will get it done today? Well… maybe tomorrow.
