Suzie’s House 318 : Shut Up, Stephanie

Suzie's House

No doubt she wouldn’t have said it if she’d know Bruce was standing right behind her. Then again, she knew his locker was next to hers. How could she not notice him? It wasn’t like Bruce tried to hide. He hated being ignored.

“I can’t believe the got first place? I mean, all they did was play a song. Could you even tell if they have any talent? It’s not like my baton twirling.”

“Shut up, Stephanie,” the girl’s friend said, looking right over her shoulder at Bruce.

“I’m clearly more talented.”

The friend gave Stephanie a ‘yeah-right’ look.

“Well, it would have been more impressive if they’d let me light it.”

“Flaming batons. Yeah, that would have been good,” the friend grinned.

“I know, right? But even if I could of, I’m sure Tracy and her band would still have won. It’s just a big popularity contest.”

Dmn right it was a popularity contest. That was the only reason it was worth bothering, as far as Bruce was concerned. The talent show was just free advertising, as far as he was concerned. Now people at the school knew about them, and knew how good they were, so they’d show up at the door when word got out they had a gig.

“Didn’t they get like eighty percent of the votes or something?”

“Yeah. I don’t get it. I mean, look at who else is in that band. A gossip, a band geek, and a delinquent. And who knows about the girl in the mask. The only good ones were Tracy and Gene, and they are both just attention whores. If you ask me…”

“Come on.” The friend tugged Stephanie’s sleeve. The two of them walked away.

Like Bruce would let them get away from him that easily. A delinquent, huh? He could guess who Stephanie meant. Well, he’d show her what a delinquent he could be. He followed them down the paper-strewn hall.

“If you ask me, they’re all just spoiled brats. Everything they want, they get, while I’m not getting anything.” She threw her arms out, and accidentally slapped some hapless idiot going to class. Stephanie didn’t notice. “It isn’t fair.”

The guy she got sputtered, and might have hit Stephanie, but he took one look at Bruce and backed off. Bruce mimed aiming a gun at the guy’s back, and pulled the imaginary trigger, though really it was Stephanie he wanted to kill. The guy left faster.

So did Stephanie’s friend. “Shut up, Stephanie,” she said, looking over her shoulder.

“Would you quit saying that? I’m not going to shut up because I’m right. Right?” She stopped right in the middle of the hall.

Bruce stopped right behind her and leaned into the wall, feeling all intimidating.

“Oh, what-ev’s.” Stephanie still hadn’t noticed him. “So. You going to the graduation ceremony tomorrow?”

“Yeah, actually,” Bruce said from right behind her. “I think I will.”

He smiled, thoroughly pleased with himself as the girl whirled around, got a look at his face, and almost fainted dead away. Yeah, it’s good to be noticed.
