I’ve got plenty to do, but all I feel like is kicking back with some video games and vegging out. I think it’s because the holidays are so high-pressure. This is actually a good time to kick back because in about a month it’ll be the beginning of tax season and I’ll be busy again. Not looking forward to it this year. Corporate taxes. Think I’ll write a book instead.
How about you? Got something to look forward to? Feel like doing nothing? Which form of doing nothing do you like best?
White knuckles straining on the steering wheel,
she sits next to her five page suicide note, shaking because
she did not save her marriage
or her job
or find herself or her future
she did not make it to the crossing in time
and her five pages float out the window with the passing of the train.

At the end of 2011 I made 13 predictions. Let’s see how I did.
1. Someone somewhere is going to starve. Too obvious? Ok, it’ll be someone in the USA that makes the national news.
Not that I know of.
2. There will be some unpleasantly record-breaking weather.
Does Sandy count?
3. A hurricane will reach into some part of the Midwest. Maybe not Kansas, but at least Illinois.
Again, does Sandy count?
“What do you want to write about?” I brought a plate of cookies to the living room along with a cup of hot cocoa and a cup of milk.
“I don’t know.” Ben took the cocoa from me as I set the plate down. I had a bad moment as the other cup tried to slide off my finger, but managed to escape spill free.
“It’s going to be kind of hard to write a book if you don’t know what it’s about. Not impossible, but not much fun, if you’re like me.”
A major thanks to Ann Pino, who participated last week while I was struggling with my internet issues. Love yah, Ann.

I’ll be around to read your blogs in the next day or so. In a some cases, I’ve already been and read, but found due to problems with blogger’s form set ups and password issues with WordPress.com I was unable to leave comments.
Now that I’m back on my desktop I feel more in control. I can actually get around and do the things I want to do. Yay! So of course the first thing I did on getting home was start running laundry.
I had a great time visiting family but messed up on my chance to see friends. Most of them have scattered around the world, but if I’d gotten my act together faster, I’d have been able to see a best friend, anyway. I’m kicking myself for that one.
Did you get a chance to see friends and family? What are your plans for tonight?

Due to the lack of a reliable laptop, I will be unable to get online regularly for about a week. I could fight it, begging and borrowing from family members at odd moments, but I can not guarantee I will be able to get my posts up, and frankly, it’s a lot of work at a time when I’d like to be kicking back and enjoying the last fully-attended get together I’m likely to see for a while.
So, I’m going to wish you all a Happy Holidays right now, visit your blogs when I can, and otherwise fall silent for a few days. That means no Suzie’s House this week, no Fiction Friday 55, to Teaser Tuesday, and no Jack and Jill. There WILL be a Serialists post on Wednesday, which I intend to set up ahead of time, but I’m not going to try to highlight any particular author for it.
Be sure to come back next week. I’ll have all the things you enjoy when you visit here posting regularly again, and will catch up with everyone whose posts I missed while out of commission.
Have a great week, and see you soon.
Jill’s Mother: Jill? Where are you?
Jill’s Mother: Huh. Soup, and decorations. Not really their style. Oh, that’s right. They went on vacation and left a house sitter. Well, I guess I should meet this person.
Jill’s Mother: Maybe that was a mistake.

Trapped in a cage from the moment he popped out of the oven, GB Mann planned his escape. First he’d break the glass, then climb down a straw and once he hit the counter…. But before he could act, someone came along and offered a hand. Too bad it lead to a hand-to-mouth existence.

Apparently the Mayan calendar ends tomorrow (Friday). This is supposed to be the end of the world. Having lived through Y2K, the Harmonic Convergence, and a wide variety of ascensions, I’m not really in the mood to do anything for it. However, it did occur to me that if the world really did end, I’d probably miss a few things. Like these:
1. Christmas lights reflected off new snow as viewed while holding my dh’s hand.
2. Attending a rock concert with a bunch of people who like to dance.
3. Chasing my daughter through the house while she screeches and giggles.
4. The loud rumble of a happy cat being petted.
5. When the bread comes out of the oven fresh and perfect.
6. Reading a good book.
7. Writing a good book. 🙂
8. Walking barefoot through cold, wet grass on a hot summer day.
9. Soaking in a warm jacuzzi.
10. Spending all afternoon talking with a good friend.
11. Feeling the wind pull my hair back as I bicycle on a path by the river.
12. Getting to the top of the mountain and looking out over the valley.
13. Finishing a major project, like a quilt or painting the house.
Well, hopefully I’ll get to see a lot more of all that, regardless of how the calendar ends.
The kitchen table was covered of flour and cookie cutters when Ben came over. I had a dish towel in my hands and flour on my shirt.
“Now isn’t really a good time for…” I trailed off, seeing the look on his face.
