Emma felt a strange sense of strength and peace. It wasn’t just that she didn’t feel like she had to run to the bathroom. She hadn’t bit her nails all day either. Usually by the end of first period the tips of her fingers hurt from making the nails too shot. Instead, she actually made eye contact with the teacher, and maybe a couple of other people. She felt great.
Featured Author: Brian Miller. I bid a sad farewell to a great series. Let us know if you start another or start this one up again, Brian. I loved it.

I tend to be a little manic about completing rough drafts once I start writing them. This probably comes from the book I spent twenty years unsuccessfully writing. I repeatedly started revising it before completing the rough draft and eventually had to give the whole thing an ignoble burial.
But sometimes the process is messing. In the case of my current WIP, the process is complicated by the existence of a previous book in the series and the plans for a following book. Yep, it’s a trilogy. Worse, this one breaks a few rules by covering the same ground as the first.
So, the night before yesterday I surprised myself by hitting the end of the book. This is quite a few words less than I anticipated. I can easily make up the difference, though, if I go back to a part of the book I skipped over during NaNoWriMo. But to do so, I would have to go back to the first book, and if I do that I’ll get sucked into revising it.
Normally I wouldn’t hesitate. I’d just go for it. But this series isn’t one anyone is looking for. It’s a little detour that I indulged in when I really, really need to work on revising books I intend to get published soon.
What would you do? Stick with this book including the revision of the first, or switch back to the ones you were supposed to be working on in the first place?

he takes a slice;
a child on the swings waving hands and feet
a crazy man in court wraps himself in stars and stripes
a squirrel falling, falling, falling with the leaves.
he sits in the park with pen and paper
scribbling down all that he sees.
in a moment-phrase-word his slices and his reality

No way I’m going to include a picture this time. If I did, the only thing anyone would say is that it’s messy. 🙂

“Sit down. You aren’t going anywhere until you eat.”
“But Moooom. I have school.” Lisa stared at the plate full of waffles that hit the table where she usually sat and frowned.
“Luscious, right?” Tracy grinned at her across the table, already eating.
This week’s featured author is Old Egg with Ahu and Ahuahu. It’s turning into quite the long-range epic. So cool.

The knight had a plan. He’d seen other knights attacking the dragon. Their armor did no good, their valor wasted. Not him. Leaving the clanking iron behind, he crept up with not but a sword. Once he’d reached the head he raised the sword high. The dragon opened an eye.
“Goody. Lunch.”

“Step back again. I can’t get you in focus.” Lisa waved at Ben while keeping the video camera clued to her face.
Ben did it, and didn’t even grumble, though he couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t make the camera focus on him no matter where he stood. So he hunched over against the cold and let himself look … what was that word she used? Desolate. That was it.
