Suzie’s House 358 : A Tale to Tell

Suzie's House

Suzie handed me a cup of herb tea. I’ll admit I might have given it a concerned look.

“It’s perfectly fine,” Suzie said in exasperation as she sat across the kitchen table from me. “Just some ginger root I sliced myself and a bit of lemon. Nothing to set off one of your allergies.”

“Ah. Thanks. Sorry about that.” The mint tea she’d given me a while back had set off a whole new set of reactions. “It’s getting so the only thing I can have anymore is water.”

Legal Ease by Lori Ryan p.3

She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths and pictured herself earlier in the day. It would have been noon when she was grabbed.

Breaking Bad

It started out as research. Not factual research. Cultural research.

Beautiful Spanish Hussy is set in Albuquerque, New Mexico and features a drug-lord. Knowing that the people who read the book might well have seen the show, I thought it best to check it out. I wanted to be sure that there wasn’t too much overlap.

No worries. I don’t have to change a thing in my book to avoid looking like a copy cat. Beautiful Spanish Hussy takes a radically different point of view and deals with aspects of drug culture that are in no way connected to the TV series.

Actually, I knew that much by the middle of the first season. So, I could have simply quit right there. But noooo. I got hooked.

If you’ve seen the end, DON’T SAY ANYTHING! I’m down to the final season. I’m only watching on the weekends because my husband wants to watch it with me. The Girl started with me, but no longer watches it because it became too tense for her. Last night she drifted in while we were watching and casually said, “So who died this time? No, I don’t mean the small fry. Any main characters?”

I wonder if I could sneak in and watch the ending on my own.

Sheepish

“See?” Jane turned her ipad around and handed it to Marg. “You wouldn’t believe how many sheep and goats there were in Mongolia. I swear every time I turned around there were more. What I went there to see were yaks. I saw a few, but no where near as many as the sheep. I wish I’d gone to France with you instead. At least then I could have gotten away from the livestock.”

“Really?” Marg grabbed her own ipad and selected a picture. She handed her ipad to Jane.

“Oh you poor thing. At least in Mongolia they couldn’t block the road.”

Suzie’s House 357: Absurd Developments

Suzie's House

Content Warning. Not quite bad enough to put on the newsletter, but Ana better not read this while eating breakfast.

Ben followed the others in the back door and through the house with the intention of taking mental notes for future writing. How often did a guy get to see a dead body? Assuming Gene really did kill his dad when he beat him up.

Had the place always been this bad? He remembered coming here back in sixth grade. It was messy then, but not like this. Beer cans and liquor bottles mixed with pizza boxes and fast food bags everywhere he looked. Something or another crunched underfoot with every step.

2013-2014 Driver License Manual p.48

Guess who needs to renew. Normally I wouldn’t bother you with this, but these lines made me giggle:

Let’s give our children a “brake.” Every child is a human caution sign and as unpredictable as Montana’s weather.

Someone Read My Book

Sandra Nachlinger did a little promo work for me last Friday. I am tickled pink! Not merely because it’s always great to have someone draw attention to your work, but because I had no reason to expect it. I didn’t even know she had read my book.

Moving in has been on my mind for quite a while now. It’s sitting there on my inner sidebar, taunting me with the fact I let so much time go by between the publication of that book and my next. I have the rough drafts for four related books done. But they are only rough drafts.

For me, the hardest part of writing is always in the revisions. I can whip out a full length rough draft in a month. But turning that dreck into something I can be proud of is another matter. Simply catching all the spelling errors can take a lifetime.

But back to Sandra. She didn’t really do a review. She did a meme with a couple of opinions about the book thrown in. It’s a lot like a Teaser Tuesday kind of thing. So far as I’m concerned, that’s even better.

Anyway, thanks Sandra. I appreciate it. Anyone curious can click on the link above to go directly to her Moving In post.

E-Motion

Jill: Mother! Don’t you dare.

Tina: But he’s not doing anything today. Just look at the lazy bum. He hasn’t moved a muscle. Unless you count that stupid, electronic game. What does he get out of it anyway?

Jill: Leave him be. He’s reliving past glory.

Tina: Huh?

Jill: Don’t ask.

Waves

“I’m telling you, there’s something in the water.” Mack gave his fishing line a jerk.

“I hope so. Be a pure waste of bait otherwise.” Lewis pulled in his own line, giving up for the day.

“Not a fish, you idiot. It’s like the Loch Ness Monster or something.”

“Probably an old tire.”

“Feel for yourself.” Mack handed Lewis the rod.

Lewis gave the line a tug or two, then handed it back.

“Yup. Old tire. I’m sure of it.”

“Probably right,” Mack muttered. He cut the line, then paddled for shore.

Just in time as something large and old made a wave.

13 Things I Did Today

130816n 955

1. Got a call from the car lone officer about the paperwork. Turned out to have already been dealt with.

2. Increased the auto-payment on the mortgage as they insurance rates have gone up again.

3. Made a deposit at the bank.

4. Spent everything deposited.

5. Gave the cat some medicine. Hopefully this next dose will be the last.

6. Dishes.

7. Gave The Girl a ride to school.

8. Got a call back from the doctor about a lab report.

9. Got three (THREE!) calls from a political survey group. Apparently “take me off your calling list” doesn’t mean anything to them. (Aspen Media, in case anyone was curious)

10. Went grocery shopping

11. Watched old episodes of Merlin on Netflix. It’s The Girls latest craze.

12. Finished sewing a shirt.

13. Came up with a post for Thursday Thirteen.
