Workshop

“Mom. Hey, Mom. Look what I made. It’s for school. Everything is laid out just right. And it looks good, too.” Fred ran to the kitchen to get his mother.

“I’m busy.”

“I’d bring it in to you, but the glue is still wet and things will fall off. Come on, come on, come on. You’re only doing dishes anyway.”

“All right.” She dried her hands on a dish towel, then followed him.

“Do you see it? Do you see it? What do you think?”

“Oh, I see it all right. A mess! As soon as your rocks dry, clean it up.”

13 Flowers

All right, I admit it. I have no idea how many types of flowers there are, but doesn’t it look about right?

Suzie’s House 378 : Termites or Dry Rot?

Suzie's House

Suzie jabbed the window’s apron with a screwdriver. She wasn’t sure how far it sank in, but it certainly didn’t bounce back the way it would if she jabbed a new piece of wood. So for sure there was rot. The question was how intense did she have to get about repairs. Maybe it was time to find a carpenter.

Cat and the Countess by Casey Claybourne p.19

“Bah. Just as you or I would go to the mantua makers to purchase fabric – in Mother’s case, she attends church to buy herself salvation. Honestly, the woman could squeeze blood from a ha’penny, yet she’s lavished money on the Devonshire clergy, I think as a way to atone fro her disagreeable nature. But I tell you, there’s not enough gold in the world to atone for her nasty disposition.”

Seasoning

Tina: What are you doing?

Theodor: I’m building a time machine.

Tina: Why?

Theodor: It seems like one of my ingredients needs a bit more seasoning.

Tina: Got nothing to do with me. Gah!

The theme for this week’s Jack and Jill is “seasoning” as suggested by Alice

Empty Studio

“Take care of it.” Uncle John handed Bruce the key. “I’ve got something to do.”

Bruce didn’t try to argue. He already knew his uncle only put up with him because he’d do whatever he was told. Today it was taking a keyboard back from someone who owed him money.

But which one? The room was full of them.

“Hey! What’s this kid doing here?” Some guy shouted from the door.

“I’m taking care of it,” Bruce said. He might only be in grade school, but he wasn’t anyone’s fool. He grabbed the closest keyboard and walked out like he owned the place.

This is a Suzie’s House extra set in the past by four years. It’s a glimps of how Bruce became a keyboard player.

13 Driving Comments

The Girl is learning to drive. She’s got her learner’s permit; and we are going for a drive every day. Here are some of the things she’s said.

1. Look at me! I’m driving.
2. I have the power. I shall use it for good. (while waiting for pedestrians to cross in front of us.)
3. Look at me! I can turn.
4. I know that person (talking about a pedestrian), and that one, and that one. Why is everyone I know on foot?
5. Well, that was a new experience (after pulling over for an ambulance).
6. I got this. (Pleased with herself for going through her first traffic light controlled intersection.)
7. Shut up, Mom. I’m trying to drive here.
8. This is scary, this is scary, this is scary (twisty mountains roads)
9. Hey, when Grandma comes I can drive her to the store to buy me clothes.
10. Look at me! I can do this. (First time in construction)
11. Shut up. I know. (After driving so close to the side of a country road that the tall grass slapped the passenger side of the car. Twice.)
12. Look. Lawn ornaments (deer in someone’s yard).
13. I’m learning a healthy hatred of deer (as one crosses the road.)

Bonus: Dude! What the Hll? (At a guy crossing a four lane road at night in black clothes while paying more attention to his cell phone than the fact we almost hit him.)

Suzie’s House 377 : Emma Gets Scooped Up

Suzie's House

“Hey, Emma. Whatcha doing?” Arrogant as ever, Bruce came up behind her and threw an arm across her shoulders as if he had a right to do so. Emma shrugged him off.

“Leave me alone.”

“Oh. Isn’t that the house where you like to sing?” For someone so crude, Bruce caught on quick.

“Y-yes. Yes, it was.”

Vince Chronicals: God’s Work by Ann Pino

It was hard to find good help in a post-apocalyptic city.

I may not be running The Serialists anymore, but I still read a lot of serials posted on peoples blogs. This is one of my favorites. This one is here.

I Made a Treasury!

StoryTreasury

It’s an Etsy thing. I joined what they call a “team”. It’s a way to promote your Etsy store. In the team they have what they call a treasury game. Everyone is supposed to make these collections of 16 items using stuff we find in each other’s stores.

Being me, I naturally just had to make a story out of it. Four stories, actually. I picked items I thought could represent something more, then arranged them so the stories read from top to bottom in each column. First is the setting, then the characters, some action, and finally a prize or result. I was somewhat limited because I had to use only one item from each of 16 stores; but I think it went pretty well anyway.

Only, I don’t think the people on Etsy get it. So then I rearranged it all.

Food Poisoning

Tina: You don’t look so good. Are you sick?

Theodor: Must have been something I ate.

A Simple Mistake

“Please. Can’t I have another one? Please, please, please.” Alicia skipped along backwards through the empty fairgrounds so she could face Liam.

“There is a season for all things. The time of celebration and the ease and tranquility of Summer is behind us. We are now facing the Day of the Dead and the brutal fall of that bitter, cold substance called snow. It is best to put our dreams behind us,” said Liam.

“But I missed out! I dropped my lollipop in the rabbit barn and now it’s all covered in fur. Why can’t you give me another?”

“I only had the one.”

13 From Peak to Peak and Down

We took a gondola to one peak, a chair lift to the highest point, then rode the Peak to Peak gondola.

1. The gondolas that run from peak to peak are about twice as big as the gondola we took up the hill. The towers holding them are even bigger.
