He snapped and growled at anyone who came too close to his junk yard, as surly as his dog.
“Leave them tires alone! It might look like junk to you, but it’s valuable to me. Did you know I once built a house out of tires like these? Fill ‘em with dirt and they’ll keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Don’t be trying to throw ‘em out!”
One day someone stole his car. He didn’t say a thing.
“Why do you care about all these used up parts, but not a car that runs?”
“The car can get a home anywhere. Us used up parts aren’t so lucky.”

When her daughter came home and announced that she wanted to move out, Sophie went into full denial. She knew it was denial, but she couldn’t seem to make herself focus on the issues. So she found an excuse to pretend nothing was happening while Emma barricaded herself in her room and waited for Ethan to come home.
Better Ethan than James.
I have now officially hit the half way point in my book. I was writing much more efficiently at the beginning of the month when my part time job went full time and my obligations in all kinds of places went nuts.
Now I’ve finally hit a lull in the pressure, and wouldn’t you know the writing slowed way down. I think it’s because I have time to actually think about what I’m putting down “on paper”. When it comes to writing fast, it’s never a good idea to look too closely at what’s there.
Tina: Where are we now?
Theodor: You mean when? Your guess is as good as mine.

Emma tried not to think of anything too malignant while riding home with her brother. The drive would only take a few minutes, but she was sure he’d manage to say something nasty before they reached the house.
We were driving a new car, and couldn’t be sure just how far into the red we could get, on the last day of our trip when we noticed how close the gauge had come to Empty. The question was, could we make it the last few miles, or should we try to find a gas station in the middle of the night.
Though it would further drain the tank, we decided it was best to turn in at a little town and hope for the best. What we found was this – a single, credit-card-only gas pump set up with nothing else connected to it. Except a porta-potty.
What a relief! And since we were back in the states, our credit cards would work. But what an eerie feeling to come into a place where there is no sign of another living soul and find something like this.
A few weeks after we got back, I mentioned the place to my wandering son. He knew exactly where I was talking about. Apparently he and his friends got stuck there for three days while hitchhiking. They slept under school buses just down the road from the gas pump. The woman at the diner was very nice to them and gave them leftovers. He remembers the place fondly.
Tina (running): Ken! Ken, you doll, you. Wait for me. Your cheeks are so nice and… wait. You aren’t Ken. David Hasselhoff?! Gah!
Whack! Wham!
Tina: Let’s just go.
Theodor: Yeah.

“I want something really unique,” said Liam to his uncle. He spread his hands and gestured the humongousness of the concept. “Sure, a Studebaker has a certain cache, and a Ferrari has style, but neither of them are really truly unique. I want something that goes beyond the social norms. Something that even Mom would never mistake for her car. Dad said I should talk to you about it.”
“I think I have just the car for you. Follow me.” Liam’s uncle led the way to the back of the junk yard. There he had exactly what Liam was looking for.
Really. I left this one super-size-able so you can count them yourself.

Emma let the gossamer curtains in Lisa’s living room fall back. She was pretty sure her brother hadn’t seen her peeping at him. He’d walked past the house three times so far, but didn’t seem inclined to knock on the door. Maybe it would all be all right after all.
