The Girl has a homework assignment in which she’s supposed to produce a random list of 24 things about herself. She doesn’t get much sympathy from me. I pointed out I do a list of 13 things about myself every week for Thursday Thirteen, and that I didn’t have one ready for this week yet. At the time she was eating a bowl of cereal. She suggested I list 13 of the boxes of cereal we have in the house right now. I thought that was too boring, so here is my list of 13 events that take place in my morning.
1. The alarm goes off.
2. It’s still dark out. My body is convinced that it should never stir before the sun is up, and refuses to actually wake up. I wave a hand in the general direction of the snooze button. Somehow it connects.
3. The alarm goes off again.
4. I listen to the music for a minute – heavy metal – and decide I better actually turn it off so it doesn’t disturb Mr. Al, who will have gotten about two hours of sleep at this point.
5. The alarm goes off again. When did I fall back asleep?
6. I get out of bed.
7. I stumble to the other end of the trailer house to wake the kids. They now have 15 minutes to get out the door to catch the school bus.
8. I rush to turn my alarm off with the little sliding button so it doesn’t wake up Mr. Al. That or I fall back into bed, utterly exhausted by the 70 foot trek.
9. Bathroom. NOW I’m awake.
10. Yell at the kids that they are late.
11. Empty dish washer. The noise help get the kids up.
12. Refill the dishwasher, unless I’m supposed to fill out a bunch of forms for the school or otherwise deal with an emergency.
13. Hug the kids good bye.
Ok, so looks like there are a few other steps as well. For instance, there’s turn the computer on. Sometimes there’s a bike ride to the convenience store for milk. Usually something with the curtains will be involved. And now and then I don’t get around to breakfast for a long time because I went back to bed.

In the later years of his life, George IV may have partied a little less hardy, but he still had an interest in some of his old pursuits.
It was very unfortunate that His Majesty seemed to be losing his grip when he did, although it must be said that he never lost it as completely as did his father. Demand for reforms had been growing since the days of his Regency. Catholic emancipation was on the front burner, in England as well as Ireland. The demand for the repeal of the Corn Laws had already degenerated into bloody rioting in cities and towns across England.
The Tory response was divided between that of the much better off Better Sorts, the lords and big landholders, they called for tightening the screws. Call out the army, hang the rioters, ship them off to Australia with all the other riff-raff. The other wing of the Tory Party saw reform as inevitable, the reforms were going to come about, so let’s make sure we remain at the table to get the best deal possible.
Look what we got last week. We were beginning to think it would never come. Don’t ask me the make and model. All I know is that it was made in China by Tonka. I kid you not.
Last Thursday I posted a list of some of the spam that has tried to insinuate it’s way into the comments on my blog. In that list was simply a number. Today I’m going to talk all about that number.
The number is 194.8.75.141. This is a number that marks a particular person, the one who is sending me the most spam. I took that number to a site that can match it up with the the person’s personal information. What I wanted was this person’s ISP so I could see if he (Andrey would be a guy, right?) was in breach of his Terms of Service and could maybe get kicked off.
Cause I’m getting tired of Andrey. He’s cluttering up my spam cue, which makes it harder to fish out the folks who should not have been caught there.
What I got instead was his home address. He’s from the British Virgin Islands. Glamorous, no? I’m getting spammed in style.
So If I wanted to show up on his doorstep, theoretically I could. That’s more effort than it’s worth. But I can’t get him tossed for his TOS breach. Because his ISP turns out to be him.
So I’ll just keep deleting him and maybe I’ll add a little curse. Any guesses what I wish for him?
I’m giving away a copy of Guardian by Angela Knight in a random drawing from anyone who says they are interested in the comments on this post. I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday.
This is from the pile of books I brought home from the National Romance Writer’s of America convention. It’s a Paranormal Romance put out by Berkley. If you get into this kind of thing, you’ll like it.
The Heroine, Riane Arvid, is a time cop. She chases after a pack of religious fanatics enamored with a demon they created with – well, that might be giving too much away. Anyway, when she’s a little girl these fanatics, who are called the Xeran, kidnap her for nefarious purposes. Nick Wyatt, uses the power in his magic arm band to help save her. At the time he was living a few centuries before her.
They both grow up to be tough fighting machines desperately battling Xerans, him in the early 21st century, her all through time but mostly on Earth. A Xeran plot sabotages her equipment, stranding her in his time. From there the plot thickens.
Anyway, I give it a thumbs up.
Congratulations, Caron! I’ll be in touch soon.

The Girl had a grand old time looking up at clouds and seeing things like horses running and dogs sniffing. So….
This is an in-joke for people who followed my Jack and Jill series over this summer. For those of you who missed it, Jack and Jill’s dog, Tonic, got switched for one that is smarter, but strange. This alarmed them for a while, but now they are used to it.
Jill: Oh no!
Jack: Is it contagious?

“Why didn’t you give the tickets to me,” Gene asked.
He and Lisa stood under a street light, or maybe it should be called a sidewalk light since it wasn’t near any street. It was along the walk way leading up to the coliseum where ShapeShifter was going to play. They were waiting for Ben, who was talking to some guys unloading a truck.
“You were busy at the time.” Lisa shrugged.

Every day, a little further. Each time, a stretching up, a whoosh and a whrrr, as the world goes by. Dash to the mark, then place the foot just so. Take. Off. Launch into the stars. Reach for the heavens. Count breathlessly until gravity can endure no more. Only count the cost after the landing.
I have no idea how this picture came to be on my camera. I suspect someone in the family grabbed my camera for a quick picture.
