“Things are going to change right now. Beginning with you.” Mrs. H said it with that straight-up-honest, kind, mother type way of hers, but Gene knew she didn’t mean to be comforting.
Good thing too, because her words put a chill down his back like having someone you really didn’t like staring at you too much. Gene swallowed hard, and waited for the punch.
I know, you’ve seen half a dozen shots of this particular mountain already. Until I started this 365 thing I didn’t realize I’d taken so many of it.

All of life, grist for the mill.
They’re called Bionicles. They were quite the rage when we got them for the boy. Used to buy them for Christmas every year. Cost less than ten bucks. Now he only want stuff like an electric guitar or an iPod.
Remember those pictures of animals I posted a couple of weeks ago? Animals weren’t the only things my mother took pictures of while over there. She also took these:
Capetown:
Capetown up close:
Table Mountain in Cape Town, literally “in” Cape Town. The city surrounds the mountain.
The view of Capetown from Table Mountain also shows beaches and another segment of town.
Pin cushion protea:
Cashew peddlers:
Kids in leaves that danced so bus would stop and tourists would buy family animal carvings
Fabric for sale:
the Zulu host
Elephant safari headquarters:
Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe:
Same place:
Same place, but from the air:

So what did he decide? He picked something completely off the list! (grumble, grumble) He decided to write about Marie Antoinette’s mother. Apparently she managed to pull of some pretty snazzy statesmanship.
He’s only just started research on her, but thinks it will probably take as long to cover her life as he spent on George IV. I’m giving him until the second week of January to get his first post to me. Don’t tell him I said so. I said told him I wanted to post it the first week of January, but I don’t think he realizes that means he has to give it to me over the Christmas break.
He’s also picked a mistress of George IV to do a one-shot with some time in the next couple of weeks. I was hoping I’d have it this week, but now I’m guessing the week after next. He gave me the name of the mistress in question, but I’m afraid it went in one ear and out the other. Hey, I was busy writing a book at the time.
In the meanwhile I’ll do my best to fill the Wednesday void until he’s ready again. I’m thinking I might do something on underwear.
I’ve been busy with this NaNoWriMo thing and neglecting my friends here at the restaurant. Between trying to crank a book out this quickly, having relatives come visit, and simply getting through the daily grind, I’ve been strapped for time.
Is anyone else out there feeling the Holiday pinch yet?
Doesn’t this look like it should have some words on it? Maybe Merry Christmas, Thursday Thirteen, Talk to Me Tuesday, or Space for Rent. Just seems to me something is missing. What do you think? Should I add some words? If so, what should I say?
I pulled a long day yesterday, and got 6,000 words written, which put me over the finish line. Yippee!
Most of you probably didn’t notice, but for the last month I’ve been in my “writing cave”. I’ve cut way back on the amount of time I visit other blogs. The only places I commented were on blogs of people who came to visit me first. I had to do this in order to get the word count done. To those of you who hung in there with me, thank you!
I still have about 10,000 words to write, and a lot of revision to do before I turn this book over to my editor in January, so I’m not completely out of my cave yet. But I’ll be a little better about visiting you now.
Jill: Gin? What are you doing? Are those blueprints for a mousetrap? No! They’re blueprints for a machine to catch a bird! Gin! How could you! Jack, tell Gin why she’s wrong to do this.
.
Jack: She’s right, Gin. I can’t believe you’d do this. Looking for a technological solution when you should be practicing your pounces.
Today’s theme is technology
