It was only a few months between the day I watched two red haired men run out of Cindy’s apartment during a party and the next time I ran into Suzie’s son, Ben, but it seemed like a couple of years had gone by. In that time, Ben had nearly been abducted by those red haired men, seen them arrested, been accused of insanity by a crazy teacher, sent his own father to jail for attempted murder, rescued his best friend from an abusive father, started summer vacation, and maybe acquired a girlfriend.
In contrast, I had only written a couple of books, and done a lot of walking.
Walking, if you’ll recall, brought my friends and I together in the first place. It was the reason for the party held at Cindy’s house. It was also what brought Ben back into my life.
This is just a regular old out-door tree wrapped up in lights. Has a kind of surreal quality, doesn’t it?
I blame this one on Clean and Crazy, who didn’t know she was giving me ideas.
Take one reindeer with frayed electrical cord to the roof.
Add Christmas Music played at 20 decibels
to one irate neighbor.
Mix in a dozen screaming kids in the yard,
a broken shingle,
an open bottle of burgundy
empty stomach
and fresh snow.
Finish with a spouse holding a light bulb.
“You forgot his nose!”
She brought them with her when she came to visit over Thanksgiving. Aren’t they cute. When they aren’t moving, that is.
Yep. Totally random, straight out of my brain.
1. I really should do something with the Christmas ornaments.
2. Put them up?
3. Later.
4. Too many things are “later” lately.
5. I don’t have National Novel Writing Month to blame anymore.
6. I should do more research on underwear.
7. I wonder if the kids will eat the rest of the leftover turkey if I bake it in a casserole.
8. Maybe I should have left it in the freezer longer.
9. The Boy wants me to drive him to visit his friends.
10. They live 50 miles away.
11. I’m getting tired of driving 100 miles at a whack (round trip).
12. Do I spoil him?
13. Am I really going to make cookies out of the cranberries I bought when it was too late to make them into sauce, then tossed in the freezer?
Told you they were random.

Sorry, the underwear thing is taking longer than I expected. Too many distractions I’m afraid (stupid Holiday story challenge). And so far, no sign of anything from Mr. Al. I’ll try to get back to history next Wednesday.
It’s a love/hate thing, really. This is why you mostly get still-life stuff from me.
I’m in one of those slumps. After spending most of a month on Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter, I’ve thrown in the towel. I’m close to the end, but haven’t enough interest to actually finish it. Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear turned out to simply not be my thing, and I’m even a little flinchy about Rescue Me by Christy Reece. I may very well skip over it for the Rita Mae Brown that’s waiting for me.
I’m not sure if I’m being too picky again. That happens to me now and then. I get entirely too critical.
Do you go through reading cycles? Do you get fed up with your books? What are you reading now?
Lookie what Renee gave me! Yes, I received it before, but I don’t care. I love it anyway.
Anyway I’m supposed to say seven things about myself and pass it along to seven people. Here go the things:
1. I say 13 things about myself every Thursday.
2. For the life of me, I can’t think of seven things that would be interesting.
3. This reminds me of the meme where you have to say a bunch of truths and one lie.
4. Should I lie about myself here?
5. Was #4 cheating?
6. Oh, no! Does that mean #5 and #6 are cheating?!
7. I refuse to be drawn in by myself.
The people I’d like to pass this along to (much more interesting than me) are:
1. Calico Contemplations who has reindeer as well as kitties.
2. Nessa who does interesting things with bunnies and sunflowers. Don’t get me started on crickets.
3. Brighid with a view on ranch life which takes me back to my childhood.
4. Cate Masters who introduces us to new authors regularly.
5. Hywela Lyn who is a fellow Rose Garden denizen and NaNo veteran.
6. Mary Ricksen who is getting into the Christmas spirit.
7. R.J. Flamingo (I know, I know, too many awards already. Well, tough. I’m giving you another.) who has taken up the Christmas cookie challenge.
Do what you like with the award. If you want to claim it, simply copy it out here and post it on your blog. Linking to people you award it to is a good idea and linking back to me will make me smile.
2 c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 c butter
4 oz cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
Beat butter and cream cheese for 30 seconds. Add sugar, and beat till fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Combine baking powder with flour then dry ingredients with cream cheese mixture. Chill. (half an hour in the freezer will do it, but 2 hours in the refrigerator is recommended.) Working with half the dough at a time on a floured surface, roll dough to 1/8th of an inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 deg F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Jill: I’ve been working out. What do you think, Jack? Like my new curves?
Jack: They’re great, darling, but I like the old curves just as much.
Today’s theme is curves
