“It’s him!” One of the older girls in Justin’s band class said it in a very loud whisper while leaning toward another.
Justin couldn’t remember which instruments they played, but he couldn’t mistake who they were talking about. He was the only one standing in the direction they were looking – behind the kettle drums.
The best thing about playing drums for orchestra was that no one expected him to provide his own kettle drum. All he had to do was walk up and pick up the mallets. Maybe, once in a while, he would have to stop and tune one. But mostly, they were ready when he was. So different from playing in the marching band where he had to pack around his snare drum just like the poor schmoes in front of him who ere getting their cellos out of their cases.
Or like when he played with Maliprop where everything he played he had to haul around himself.

OAT stands for Overseas Adventure Travel. They are fairly well named, as they will take you on adventures overseas. They were the ones I went to Mongolia, Indonesia, and Iceland with.
“I was in a hurry, so I just shoved my feet into my shoes. And then, you’ll never guess – I felt something move. Inside my shoe! It was….” Alicia paused a moment so she could have a big reveal.
“It was a spider.” Sally didn’t even pause as she was rummaged through her medicine chest.
“How did you know?”
“I saw those shoes yesterday when I was over at your place. They were full of spider webs.”
“Oh, you’re no fun!”
“Too true.” Sally handed over a tube of spider bite ointment.

The appetizers were delicious, not because of the kitchen, but because all food eaten in anticipation of a kiss is delicious.

“Guess what I heard!” Beth leaned across the aisle so Emma could hear her, though class had already started.
“What?” Emma said it real quiet, even though they were at the very back of the classroom, over by the window. The teacher was busy writing something on the chalkboard, so maybe she wouldn’t notice, but it still made Emma uncomfortable.
Often called “oat” by the tour guides and tourists, Overseas Adventure Travel is the company that I have been traveling with for the last few years on my overseas adventures. In other words, I went to Mongolia, Indonesia, and Iceland with them, but not Belize, Canada, or Mexico.
Would you like to go? Really? If you use the coupon code for a discount from my sidebar, then I will get credit good toward future trips. Added to the credit I’ve piled up from having gone on previous trips, in a decade or so I might be able to go on one for free. Yipeee!
Don’t expect my posts to change, though. I’d rather forgo a free trip than skip a chance to complain. 🙂
So here’s how it works. If you mention my referral number – 1940244 – then you will get a nice little discount and I will get the credit. Tell them Alice sent you.
At the moment, the discount they are offering is $200. You have to book your trip by 10/6/17 for one of the trips they are offering in 2018 to qualify. The discount code is SEPT200. So far they have sent me a flier for this kind of offer about four times a year. As soon as I get a new one, I’ll post it for you.
You can check out what kinds of trips are available here.
Kimberly cut another slice from the loaf even though the bread was still too warm, and kind of squished.
“Not more health food!” Matt stomped around in the kitchen behind her. “All you feed me is rocks and twigs! Can’t we have real food once in a while? Why do you feed me this anyway?”
She had planned on slathering on some homemade jam, but seeing the hole in the bread, she changed her mind. She held it up to look at him through the heart shaped hole.
“Oh. Yeah. That’s worth it.” Matt took the slice. He smiled a little as he left the kitchen with it.

“Hey, look it this!” A girl standing next to a locker down the hall showed her smart phone to another girl. “I heard it’s a band made up of people from our school.”
Though faint from distance and tinny from the phone’s speaker, Emma could tell for sure it was her band, her song, and her video being shared.
Next to her, Kate giggled knowingly.
“Hah! It’s already working.” Kate fished her phone out of her bag. She pulled up the video on youtube. “Look! Over a thousand hits already. And it’s just begun.”
We hit the beach. In our winter coats. There was supposed to be some wildlife – seals and birds. So I searched for them.
“Is there really a place to camp here?” Carol looked over the hillside. Even if they found a flat spot, everything was covered in sage brush.
“Just a little further.” Martin kept up a steady trudge.
“We should go back. It look like rain.” She let her distaste out in her voice.
“Rain. Beautiful rain. If only it had rained more five years ago. Then this would all still be woods and we would have already set up camp.”
“Ah. Right. The forest fires.” Carol decided there were worse things than damp sleeping bags.

“Walter!” Drew panicked when he found the mobile phone abandoned on a stump next to the back side of Lake Mendota. “Where are you!!!”
There was no response. Drew crashed through the underbrush around the lake, painfully aware he was on private property, but that Walter wouldn’t care. Could the old man have slipped in the mud around the shore and drowned in the lake? Could he have drowned on purpose? These were exactly the sorts of things Drew had been hired to prevent. But how can you watch over someone with the childish contrary nature of a two year old and a body just as tall and heavy as your own?
“You have got to be kidding me. A million bucks for this? The place is a wreck! Daddy, why on earth do you want me to buy it?” Anita glowered at the ivy covered walls.
She already had a villa in New Hampshire and a chateau in France. This was supposed to be an artist’s retreat for her and her boyfriend.
“I thought you might get a place we both could enjoy.”
“You like this?” Anita quirked an eyebrow.
“Sure.” Her father took a tee and golf ball out of his pocket and placed them in the yard. Swinging an imaginary club, he shouted, “Fore!!!”
