Count to Ten by Karen Rose p. 108

“Good thing he’s off limits.”

“You said he wasn’t married.”

She sobered. “I also said he was a nice guy.”

I’m giving away an autographed copy of this on next Monday. Come by and comment to enter.

Fwd: Las Vegas

I TRULY DID NOT KNOW THIS!

Las Vegas Churches accept gambling chips

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN
LAS VEGAS , BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS..

THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS.

YOU DIDN’T EVEN SEE IT COMING DID YOU? —

GOTCHA!

Note from Alice – I don’t do the all caps thing. This is how I received the email. My apologies. I did mess with the spacing of the pictures.

160 – At the End of the World

Love. Love counts. When the dust settles and God demands the accounting
only love will have meaning. Only love will make us worthy of the heaven it creates.

This is an extension of this week’s Fiction Friday 55.

Monkey Man hosts the 160 Character Challenge. See what you can write in 160 characters or less, spaces included.

Photo Hunt – Partly Black

I’m sorry, I just can’t pull off PhotoHunt this week. I meant to do something in which Jack fell into a bottle of ink, or maybe where Jill’s mother ended up in a hospital, and Jack says it’s her heart – because it’s partly black. As you see, didn’t happen. With any luck, I’ll be back on track for next week.

Suzie’s House 201: The Best Medicine

Suzie's House

Mrs. H. did that thing grown ups do where they kind of groan and cover their faces with their hands because they are so annoyed. Gene wasn’t sure if she was more annoyed with him or with Tracy. Thing was, he couldn’t see why she was annoyed in the first place.

“Fine. If you want me to talk to someone so bad, I’ll talk to Tracy.”

“That isn’t what I meant, and you know it.”

55 – The Wasted Life

Totally random and probably inappropriate picture:

When the end comes, what will count?
Imagine a meteor striking Earth, sending death to all and sundry
watching it hit, knowing we are all even now.
Then will it matter
who has the nicer house?
Will it matter whose child has gone astray?
What will we say at the pearly gates
to justify the air we breathed, the life we ate the time we spent
living?
When it’s time to cash in our chips
what will count?

The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host with the most.

Sorry, I went way over the word count, and couldn’t work in the thing that is flip side to last week. I have one written, but want to post it later.

Seven Facts Award

Yvonne

Look what Yvonne gave me. An award. 😀 I love awards.

Given by Yvonne

This one you’re supposed to list seven random facts about yourself then pass it along to 15 people.

Because I’m not feeling real imaginative, I’m going to swipe Yvonne’s list and just kind of tweak it a little.

1. I love cats and dogs equally
2. My favorite drink is water. For real.
3. I love crafts. Just the making, not the having. Which means I gotta ditch what I make most of the time.
4. My favorite color is brown.
5. I make and collect words, mostly in book form. 😉
6. I have a sister.
7. August is my favorite season. Yes, it is too a season.

Now on to the good part. I’m giving this award to (listed haphazardly)

Freda
Secret Agent Woman
Sparkle the Designer Cat
A Catherine Noon
Mama Zen
Moondustwriter
Ann Pino
Janna
Brian
Susan Helene Gottfried
Anthony North
Patti
Yvette Davis aka Bratty

If you’ve never received an award before, you might want to check out this post.

Know Me from p.19 of The Line Between by Mark Durfee

Within the songs that make up
the ventricles of my heart
lay the pain and promise of the chambers
where the I within chants.
If you wish to know me
then you must first know
the pulsing rhythm
of the psalms I sing

This is from a chapbook written by a friend of mine. You can check it out more by clicking the picture in my left sidebar.

Fwd: Best paint job on a bus Ever!

“What fantastic work on the bus, it’s so surreal!

If the paint job on this bus was intended to first get your attention — it is a success.

If it was intended to make you more aware of the “ZOO,” it succeeded at several levels of consciousness.

If you counted the number of accidents resulting from other drivers and pedestrians staring at the bus

instead of paying attention to traffic or where they are driving/walking — probably not a success.

But it is really a great piece of art.”

Just A Cup of Tea

ONLY A MOTHER WOULD KNOW…

~A Cup of Tea ~

One day my mother was out, and my dad was in charge of me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old. Someone had given me a little ‘tea set’ as a gift, and it was one of my favorite toys.

Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of ‘tea’, which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my mom came home.

My dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was ‘just the cutest thing!’ Mom waited, and sure enough, here I came down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy; and she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only a mother would know), “‘Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water, is the toilet?”

160: Capable

She’s cooking.
She’s never really had to.
Food always came too easily to hand. No effort, merely a request.
But she can, when she wants.
Today she wants.
Impatience got the better of her.
