Steel Tomorrow- Jazz Gang by Ann Pino

I’m reading this online, and am not sure how you’d count it for page numbers.

What could Mario do to make them understand? Sure, they were living in filth and chaos. They were hungry, malnourished, and their days were numbered, but that was no reason to make bad music.

55 – Friends

I sing when I’m with you. Happy, happy, no reason for it but merely seeing your face makes everything worth while. I smile at you, without even knowing. I dance with you every chance I get. It’s no big deal. Just the way I feel because you are my friend.

The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host with the most.

Suzie's House

“Drew, how fast can you get packed?” Vin didn’t even bother to sit down before he said it.

Drew wasn’t surprised. He’d been expecting something like this ever since Vin said he was coming. Why else would he come if not to take Drew back. That didn’t mean Drew had to go.

Weeweechu

It’s a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, “Hey, mamacita, let’s do Weeweechu.”

Oh no, not now, let’s look at the moon!” said Rosita.

Oh, c’mon baby, let’s you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it’s the perfect time,” Pedro begged.

“But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon.” replied Rosita.

Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me.”

Rosita looked at Pedro and said, “OK, one time, we’ll do Weeweechu.”

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang…..

“Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.”

Ode to Joy

Jack: What is that awful noise? Christmas carolers?

Jill: I think I recognize that voice. Better look through the peephole before we open the door.

Jill: Oh, joy. It’s Cousin Joy.

55 – The Grocery Store Santa

He set up his kettle in front.
With each person to pass by, he smiled, his eyes crinkling
above the snowy white beard.
Marybeth walked right past, averting her eyes
so she wouldn’t have to dig in her purse for change.
On the way out, her way was blocked by a passing car.
She didn’t mean to glance at him.
And there it was, the crinkle of the eyes of a knowing smile.
She came up with the change.

Suzie's House

Maria couldn’t wait to get Vin alone. Not that Toby mattered, but she really didn’t want Drew to hear what she had to say. The problem was that once the four of them sat down in the living room, both Drew and Vin became immobile.
