55 – Communicator

Standing on the shore, looking out across the Atlantic, Marybeth put the shell to her ear. If Ted put the same kind of shell to his own ear, would they hear the same thing? Would it make them any closer? She had to try. Not as good as a cell phone, but better than nothing. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. 55 – The Knight Errant

Totally random picture: One day the knight rode out to kill a dragon. “Not another one,” the dragon groaned. “Another? My, there are a lot of bones. I do believe that charred lump is wearing Sir Roderick’s boot.” “Afraid?” “Of course!” “Then go away. I’m sleepy.” “Ok.” and he tip-toed away. Suzie’s House 209: The First Clue

Fascinated by the way his footsteps echoed off the concrete floor and walls of the hall in the club’s basement, Drew stopped. It shouldn’t have surprised him when the hollow sound also stopped. It was as if he still had China Black in his blood stream. Or maybe as if he was never going to recover from it. He stood there right outside the room where he was supposed to meet up with Dave, unable to move.

55 – An Arrangement Between Adults

“Carly, there you are. Why don’t you let yourself in?” Mom said. “See, I told you to just come in,” Tina said. “I know, but I feel weird if I don’t knock. Because it’s their idea, not ours.” The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is […]

Suzie’s House 208 : Drewing The Line

“He’s useless. Completely useless.” Toby wedged the heel of one cowboy boot against the bottom rung of the kitchen chair where Drew sat and stared at the FBI agent as if he were an interesting bug. Drew didn’t seem to notice. “Not completely,” Maria said to be fair “He hasn’t blown his cover yet.” “Is it not evident to you that he’s so far gone it doesn’t matter?”

The End

Death? Is that the worst threat you have to offer? Death is no big deal, just a transition from one now to another. Like hopping on a one-way train to a place that can’t be returned from. Suzie’s House 207 : Red Handed

Miranda paused at the top of the staircase. Normally she’d simply go to Vin’s room without turning any lights on. Or maybe tonight she’d go to her own room, since she didn’t want to argue with him again over all the overtime she’d been putting in. But this time she heard a furtive sound at the other end of the hall. There was someone in Suzie’s room who shouldn’t be there.

“I can’t believe you put my good broom out on the porch again!!!” “I didn’t.” “Yes, you did. I have a ratty old broom perfect for sweeping sidewalks or whatever it is you do to trash my brooms. So why is the one I paid extra for out there again?” “Mom, Dad didn’t do it. I did. Sorry.” “You…? Oh. Um… sorry, Dear.” The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. […]

Suzie’s House 206 : The Rescue Mission

The floorboard creaked. Holding his breath, Ben froze, one foot in the dark hall, the other in his mother’s bedroom. He had been so sure that spot on the floor was ok. Mom stopped snoring for a minute, but then he could hear her breathing slow and even. That counted as asleep, right? Close enough. He took another step into her bedroom.
