Quick and Easy Stir Fry

1 pork chop 1/2 bag frozen stir fry veggies 1 clove garlic a dash ginger 2T oyster sauce rice Cook rice. While it is cooking cut up pork chop or equivalent. Leftovers work well, including chicken or beef. Cook meat. I use a wok, but you can get away with a deep skillet or a pan if you really need to. I toss in some water, occasionally slopping it in from the rice. Just enough to keep anything from sticking. […]

Tie Dye Eggs

My kids love these. We tend to do them year round, not just Easter. Hard boiled eggs food coloring Crack the hard boiled eggs. The more cracks, the more lines of color there will be. Place the eggs in a stain resistant container. Drop several droplets of color directly on the egg. Place in refrigerator. More colors are fun, but they tend to turn to brown if you let several collect for long at the bottom of the container. More […]

Basic Drop Cookies

Kind of look like Sandies don’t they? But no, these are what my old copy of Better Homes and Gardens “New Cook Book” (new about 30 years ago) calls Basic Drop Cookies. They call them basic because the rest of the page is taken up with interesting things you can do to them, like adding lemon and yogurt, or chocolate and peanuts. They are tasty even without all the hoopla. 1 1/4 c flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp […]

Cinnamon Twirly Gigs

When I got done making my pie last week I found I had a fair amount of crust dough left. Ever wonder what to do with it? I don’t like these enough to make them on their own, but I’m glad to do it to use up the extra dough. Roll out all the rest of the pie crust. Spread butter on top. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar. I like to put about a tsp of cinnamon in half a cup […]

6 cups thin sliced apples 2 Tbs tapioca – uncooked 3/4 c sugar ½ tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmet 1 tsp lemon juice Cut up apples. Mix all ingredients together. Set aside for 15 minutes. Make a double layer pie crust. Very important the pie has a crust top and not just some decorative crust pieces placed on top. Without the full covering, you get apple leather bits on the top layer and cooked apple pie underneath. This is not […]
