This is Where I am Right Now

Playa Grande in Cabo San Lucas It’s a time share in Cabo San Lucas. I am so lucky to have been invited to come here, even if the result is that I am forced to play when I should be working. I borrowed a camera so I could share some of it with you. Yeah, the pictures are muddy. It wasn’t really the best time of day to take them, but I’ll take what I can get. Anyway, how’s it […]

I15

I was goofing around with my camera a couple of days ago, trying to capture the feel of being surrounded by mountains for mile after mile. What do you think? Did I do it? These were all taken on I15 either in Idaho or Montana. I took them while driving 65 to 75 mph.

Capitol Reef National Park

I thought I was done with the vacation pictures, but noticed yesterday that I’d forgotten a whole set. So here it is. Capitol Reef is close to Lake Powell. As the crow flies, you’re probably looking at ten miles. On the road between 276 and Notom the park is 30 miles from the lake. The road runs in and out of the park, but the whole area is red rock, so you aren’t likely to notice These pictographs are right […]

Rainbow Bridge

Did you ever do something so tried and true it could be called cliche, yet end up getting your sox knocked off? I mean did you ever do something like stand on the boardwalks around Niagara Falls and been surprised to have water spray on you from such a distance you hadn’t realized it was possible? Ever spit into the Grand Canyon and surprise yourself by just how far it could go? Anything like that? I had one of those […]

Shooting Lake Powell

I took about 500 pictures of Lake Powell, but they all tend to be the same thing over and over, and a lot of them are blurry. So here I give you the cream of the crop. For example, I must have taken half a dozen pictures of this view at Slick Rock. I really liked it, but they all turned out too dark and trying to color-adjust removed more detail than it revealed. You know, little things like the […]

Thursday Thirteen #35: Renting a Houseboat on Lake Powell

1. Don’t let Marianne train you. 2. The road to the rentals at Bull Frog Marina is not straight ahead on the wide, nicely paved road. That one is for the kind of rich people who can afford to actually own a boat. Rentals are to the right. Follow the road until it turns to dirt. You can park at the bottom by the “bridge” – which looks like a really long peer – but only long enough to get […]

Secret Vacation Spots

Do you have one? I’m going to show you one, but it’s not really mine to share so I won’t name it or give you specific directions. All I will say it that it’s between Goblin Valley and Lake Powell and requires the traveling of about five miles of dirt road. Right after supper in Goblin Valley we hit the road. Following directions from a friend we found a secret spot. In all the dryness and dust, this was an […]

Goblin Valley Utah

Seems like everytime I go anywhere I just have to tell you all about it. On this one I got a LOT of pictures, so for the next couple of week I’m going to be squeezing them in to every available slot. I’m starting where the trip really started – Goblin Valley. Goblin Valley is a park a few miles away from Lake Powell. We got there fairly early in the day, which meant 100 + degree temperatures, little or […]

Italian and Spanish

Natasia, our resident glob trotter who knows several languages, got to talking about English, Spanish, French, and Italian today.  She said this:  “When I go to Italy I speak Spanish with an Italian accent and they understand me, even compliment me on my Italian. LOL. It’s just singing Spanish.” The phrase “singing Spanish” struck me as profound.  She still doesn’t see it, but maybe you do.  😀 Alice

More Jackson

For some reason I have travel on my mind.  So why not throw a few more pictures of my recent travels on my blog? Looks Like I finally figured out what was wrong with the pictures I tried to post last week.  I can thank Donna for guiding me the right direction, all be it unintentionally.  I was doing exactly the same thing that gave her problems on her blog. Jackson MT is in a place called the Big Hole.  […]

From Jackson to Jackson

It was a whirlwind tour last weekend.  All told I drove just over 700 miles.  We went from Jackson Montana to Jackson Wyoming and back.  There’s quite a difference between them. Here’s one of the main streets in Jackson Wyoming. Now check out the only street in Jackson Montana. Jackson Wyoming features such exotic locals as the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum, a central square with unique entry way arches, and a large number of motels, bars, and trinket shops.  […]

The Water In Wyoming

I went rafting in Jackson Wyoming last weekend.  What a blast!  I went with my kids, mother, and sister.  We went with a tour group; the Jackson Hole Whitewater/Teton Expeditions Scenic Float Trips group on July 1st at noon. Why give all the details?  Because two photo companies set up shop on the cliff over the scariest rapids.  You can go to www.snakeriverphotos.net or www.floatographs.com and see pictures of me! I’m the fat lady in the blue top and brown […]
