I’ve been monkeying around with my desktop, trying to get wireless for our household. I should have known it would mean adding even more wire. It’s getting so thick back there I can’t tell what goes where even with a flashlight. It isn’t even all that much. No scanner, no fax, no external drives. Who’d have thought a basic system would end up such a mess?
I’ve bought a lot of Papa Murphies pizza over the last few years. I’m down there so often they know me by name. I almost always use a coupon, which brings the price to something like $7.99 or $9.99 or some such. This means if I give them a $10 bill, or $8.00, or whatever, they owe me a penny. Just a penny. I do this frequently. What gets me is that they always ask me if I want the […]
I looked into the bathtub the other day, and what did I see? A natural disaster. Poor little toy boats all huddled by the drain, bereft of their water, abandoned to an uncaring fate, left behind. One glance and I knew exactly how they felt. When you see some inanimate object that could not possibly have any feeling at all, do you have a poignant moment anyway? Do you think it’s a good thing, or a bad thing?
I went to step into the shower the other day and was confronted by this: Of course my first thought was “When did the shower stall get wounded?” No, really. That was my first thought. It didn’t last long. I skipped right over, “How did that get there,” and went straight to, “Can I make the boy take it off of there, cause I know he put it there, or am I going to have to do it?” I knew […]
Several of you have commented on the Flickr widget on my sidebar. The thing about that widget is that it isn’t mine. None of the photos shown on that widget are mine. I don’t even have any kind of membership in Flickr. I simply clicked the little box offered by WordPress to get the generalized feed. I love the little Flickr widget. Most of the time. Lately, I haven’t been loving it quite so much. Sure, it spruces up the […]
I like two-story houses. The thing about two story houses is that there is the barrier between one part and another. It’s a small thing – a staircase. It shouldn’t slow me down, but when I’m busy, I don’t generally want to take the time to run something up or down the stairs. So I put whatever needs to be moved on the newel post and let it sit there until the next time I’m going up or down. […]
I’ve been procrastinating on my blog lately. Yeah, I know you can’t tell. I’m fairly good at hitting deadlines, even when they are only self imposed, and I consider midnight my blog deadline. This week I procrastinated myself into a bind, but it wasn’t my fault. The problem was a lack of clouds. This week’s PhotoHunt was clouds. I’d planned on doing this thing where I’d have Jack and Jill holding hands in front of a sun set. Evening after […]
I mean toy guns. I live in a place where any kind of weapon in the school, even a toy weapon, can get you kicked out but deer heads are proudly displayed by everyone from real estate agents to bankers. Don’t get me started on some of the restaurants around here. This same subtle conflict runs through me personally. On the one hand I spent years hanging out with the peace, love, pass the granola folks. On the other my […]
I have a problem I admit it freely. I have a bad case of ABLE. ABLE stands for Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy. It can be applied to all kinds of things from books to embroidery supplies to paint. It simply means you stalk up on more projects than you can reasonably expect to finish in the course of one lifetime. Specifically, I an a fabricholic. I love the look and feel of fabric. I love the possibilities it presents. A […]
Did you ever do something so tried and true it could be called cliche, yet end up getting your sox knocked off? I mean did you ever do something like stand on the boardwalks around Niagara Falls and been surprised to have water spray on you from such a distance you hadn’t realized it was possible? Ever spit into the Grand Canyon and surprise yourself by just how far it could go? Anything like that? I had one of those […]
Do you have one? I’m going to show you one, but it’s not really mine to share so I won’t name it or give you specific directions. All I will say it that it’s between Goblin Valley and Lake Powell and requires the traveling of about five miles of dirt road. Right after supper in Goblin Valley we hit the road. Following directions from a friend we found a secret spot. In all the dryness and dust, this was an […]
As many of you know, I’m nuts for blog stats. I check my numbers more than once a day, and am usually very quick to reply when anyone leaves a comment on my blog. Ok, a lot of the time my reply will be on the commenter’s blog rather than my own, but still, I’m there. Not right now. It feels strange to do a Talk To Me Tuesday in advance. I usually come up with it the night before. […]
My mother has a new kitten. He’s very cute, and very active, and hard to get pictures of. The girl is having a grand old time playing with him, but the boy isn’t quite as interested. My mother said what he needs is a big dog he can run around. Personally, I’d like to have both a dog and a cat, maybe a couple of cats. Mr. Al is not so keen on it. He seems to think you can […]
This is “Book Cover Lad.” He named himself last fall when I was trying to get him to go to school and all he wanted to do was horse around with the mandatory book cover which he never used even once. At that point he was still shorter than me, could barely pick me up, and spent more time at home than off with his friends. Since then he has learned to skateboard, which he insists is called skating. Back […]
Mr. Al wanted to go hiking, so we went to our usual park. I should have known we wouldn’t be able to do much, because it’s spring and all that snow on the mountains has been melting. Nice body of water, eh? It’s not a lake. It’s the river. I guess you could say the water was running a bit high. This is the bridge we usually take to get from the shore across a little side channel and into […]
