Tracy smiled at her. She even waved. Emma felt so grateful, but kind of stunned, too. So she stayed sitting there at the exta-long lunch table instead of clearing her tray and going to the library. Maybe she could eat after all. Except Tracy didn’t come over right away. She sat talking to Gene for a minute. He looked up at her and waved, but didn’t stop unpacking his lunch. Kate still hadn’t looked at the long table, Justin and […]

Mr. Al, The Girl, and I went to see Shakespeare at the local university recently. It was an interesting take on the play A Comedy of Errors. The kept the original Shakespearean wording, but moved the setting to a Caribbean island. All the scene changes were accomplished under cover of beach revelers dancing. What a hoot!
“Hey, Mom. What’s the sound of a flower opening?” “It’s the drip of spring rain, the humid kiss of a promise, the “sorry” of a wayward husband, the buzz of bees and the click of a casket closing.” “No. Really, is it a swick or more of a swoosh. I need it for a video I’m making.” . . The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is […]
We’ve been doing some rearrangement of old junk in our house lately. In a couple of months we’ll have sifter through things to hold another yard sale. In the process, The Girl has rediscovered all kinds of stuff, from books we read to her when she was little to toys she thought long gone. A few days ago she gleefully showed me these – all the barbie shoes she could find. There just happened to be 13 of them. My […]
The big table where Tracy and Gene sometimes had their band meetings at lunch time didn’t have anyone sitting at it. It made Emma nervous and exposed, but she set her tray there right at the very end and sat down. It felt like everyone was looking at her. And not in the grand, movie-star way she liked to imagine.
Featured Author: Sheilagh Lee About Mr. Linky, it looks like something has changed in the coding for the linky aggregate. I can no longer see the names of people who have put their links in on the sidebar display while viewing the Blog page. Is it the same for you? If I click on a specific post they are there just like they used to be. How about you? I tried everything I could think of, but couldn’t get it […]
Last Thursday I mentioned a note about a video on Mr. Al’s desk. Well, here’s the note, somewhat modified by Mr. Al. It all started with The Girl’s friends. It seems most of them have become devotees of the movie The Princess Bride. She’d heard so much about it that she wanted to see it. I knew we had a copy of it, but I didn’t know where. We went through the piles and piles of video tape in the […]
Jill: So, what do you think? Would you like to rent the room from us? Theodor: Well, let us consider. I am in search of a residence which will allow me to engage fully in my occupation as a researcher. To that end I seek a place that will provide me with a comfortable environment with the least amount of fuss. Although you offer all utilities included, you do not offer meals, laundry, or general cleaning. The room is of […]
“Everyone is smirking.” Theresa glared as she huddled against the bridge railing “Relax,” Old Man Michael handed her the harness. “They’re just remembering the first time they did it. Put that on.” “Are you sure they don’t think I’m crazy?” “If they do, then they’re even crazier. They’ve all bungee jumped before.” The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host with […]
