Me in 55

Who am I? I’m ginger in the curry, a sly wink, the unabashed burp. I’m the last person to extend a hand, but the only one who stayed to see if it was needed. I’m a carnivorous hippie. I’m a prickle of surprise. In the face of God, I’m no one special, but I don’t mind a bit.

By George! It’s the Bitter End

Alas. This week’s installment of By Geroge!, Mr. Al’s discussion of the life and times of George IV, brings this series to an end. Thank you for well over a year fo entertaining history, Mr. Al. There will be other series in the future. Drop by next week to discuss it. Among all the paraphernalia acquired over a lifetime of profligate spending were packets of love letters. Big packets of love letters. And among the letters were found “quantities of […]

121/365 Hot-Tubbing Montana Style

Water is a big deal here in Montana. Not simply how much water is flowing through the rivers, but how it flows is heavily regulated. Seriously, you’re supposed to fill in an environmental impact statement before you move rocks around in the riverbed. However, a lot of people don’t. Rugged individualism is still alive and well around here. So you end up with stuff like in the picture above. People (generally college students) reconfigured the river bed to make places […]

The Picnic Thank You Award

She has also made an effort to visit me regularly. I am proud to consider her […]

Hamburger Cordon Bleu

hamburger cheese sliced ham hamburger buns lettuce etc. Cut thin slices of hamburger. Build hamburger around the cheese and ham layer, being sure to completely enclose it, pinching along edges as necessary. Fry until patty is cooked all the way through. Place patty on hamburger bun along with lettuce and any other fixings as desired. It takes a bit longer than simply adding cheese to the burger on top of the patties, but I think it’s worth it.

Suzie’s House 139: To Apologize

“I can’t believe you did that,” Lisa said. “How can you blame Gene for wanting a place of his own?” “A place.” When Ben thought of a place, he saw a bachelor’s apartment full of junk, beer, and women’s underwear like he’d seen in a movie or two. So far as he could guess, his mom’s house would never look anything like that. “This is his home, isn’t it?” Lisa was on a roll and showing no signs of letting […]
