New Schedule

As of Next Wednesday, this space will be used for the weekly Serialist post and also Suzie’s House. I was finding my Friday’s a little too full between Fiction Friday 55, Suzie’s House, and the new meme too. I’m afraid we are going to have to say good bye to Mr. Al’s history posts. He’s gotten so busy writing fiction that he’s not even looking at the book I bought for his next series. I’m not sure what I’ll do […]

Flowers in the Storm by Laura Kinsale p.228

He stopped a hackney in the same way he’d stopped one before – by walking right into the street in front of it. As the horse half-reared, its hooves striking the pavement inches from his feet, the driver shouted and another cab swerved. Jervaulx grabbed the animal’s bridle. “Alban!” he yelled, with the horse in one hand and Maddy in the other. “Jesu Christ! All right, Albany, ye blinkin’ madman!” the driver shouted. “Let me horse loose, then, and get […]

Suzie’s House 216 : How to Alter a Fond and Tranquil Moment

“Hey, Babe.” Vin settled on the lawn chair next to Miranda. With a beer in one hand, and the grill’s special, long-handled spatula in the other. He stared cross the backyard at the same row of trees and hulking Victorian house’s backside that Miranda had been staring at. “Pretty, isn’t it?” He waited for a few minutes to see what she said. Miranda wasn’t really the kind to wax rhapsodic over the turning of Autumn leaves. She probably hadn’t noticed […]

55 – Summer Vacation

The back yard was full of glass. Every summer she walked around barefoot, letting the calluses thicken, baking herself brown in the long, hot days, and plucking bottles shaped by the minds of the 1930’s – bits of glass in blue and green and brown – and thinking of snake oil and salesmen. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host […]

13 Steps to a Purchase from Lowe’s

We bought a fixer-upper recently, and have to do a lot of work to make it habitable. So naturally I’m down at the lumber yard a lot. I go to Lowe’s most of the time because they are reasonably priced (mostly) and don’t look down on me for wandering the aisles in my skirt and clogs. This is my most recent experience. 1. Movers can get a special discount from Lowe’s – 10% off. It’s good for up to a […]

Lover Eternal by J.R.Ward p.332

John went over to the bed and touched a pillowcase. It was so soft, he could barely feel it. “You’re gong to be fine here, son. It might take some getting used to, but you’re going to be fine.” After this I think I’ll head back over to the historical romances. It’s been fun, but I’m just about paranormalled out. MizB of Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesday. Grab your current read, open to a random page, share a couple […]

Summer is Finally Here

We actually hit 80 degrees yesterday (Sunday). For weeks now we’ve been getting rain and highs in the 60’s. I’ve had to run the furnace as recently as Saturday. It’s so nice to warm up a bit. I’m sorry I missed a couple of days posting. I’ve been busy painting a house. I’ve got paint splatters on my hands and arms. My arms are so tired they are shaky. Still have one room to do the primer on, then we […]

Suzie’s House 215 : But Mom, It’s My Flashdrive

“Mom!” Ben just about flipped out when he saw what she was doing. “How’d you get that?” “What? This flashdrive? It was sitting on my desk.” “But… but…” Ben swallowed hard, trying to think and not doing a good job of it.

Serialists as of June 3rd

It’s time for another round of The Serialists! We had some great entries last week with Leiffy V’s Science Fiction, and Susan and Julia’s entries. Kkrige’s travelogue is skating the edge, but has a mainstream novel feel, so I let it fly. This week I’m featuring Whitesnake’s blend of autobiography and fiction called King of Dreams. He’s just starting this one. I hope he keeps going. If you are new to The Serialists, then link to any serial you’ve posted. […]
