It’s been over a year since I’ve done one of these, and things have changed. Can you tell they are both teenagers now? 1. The Boy: They both knit, both wear suspenders and big rimmed glasses. The difference between Hipsters and Old folks is that the old folks call them the good old days and Hipsters call them retro. 2. The Boy texting with an ADHD friend who is in a car on a long distance trip and going nuts: […]
“Wow! Look at all them.” Tracy could hardly stand still. So many people had come, and she’d only let a few people know about it that morning. This school really was full of gossips. “I guess you were right.” Gene scratched the back of his head, looking all ripped and yummy. “Well, of course.” She grinned. He had no idea that all these people were here because of him. He probably thought she’d bribed them somehow.

I have a confession to make. I trimmed my neighbor’s tree. I’m watching her house right now and taking care of her cats. I’m over there at least twice a day every day. Each time, as I walk down a public sidewalk, I would get whacked in the face by branches that were hanging down way too low. I’m pretty sure it’s against city ordinances to let them hang quite so low. So… well… The thing is i didn’t stop […]
I always thought my air was re-breathed in the Amazon. Not so, I’ve heard. It’s Russia with the pristine forests lending their oxygen to my lungs. Even as I watch the forest fires decimate my woods, I have to wonder why my air isn’t Made in America. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. As I mentioned on Monday, our vacation included a day at Craters of the Moon National Park. 1. The area starts off with some routine Western grandeur. If you didn’t know there was a lava field in the area, you’d never guess it.
“Have you heard the rumors? Gene and Tracy are looking for band mates. Can you imagine? I want to do it! I want to be in their band.” Kate looked around at all her friends – Katy, Emma, and Alishia, waiting for their eyes to go big. Kate had been sitting on that piece of information for a whole period, and now that they were out in the hall she couldn’t wait to get their reaction. “Me too!” All three […]
Sheilagh Lee’s current serial, Child of the Cuckoo’s Nest, got pretty exciting last week with some sword play. I waiting to see if Marcus might indeed become king. On our way to Cabo San Lucas, we stopped off at Craters of the Moon National Monument. For a measly ten dollars we got to spend the night at the campground there and for a few bucks extra we spent the next day driving around looking at “old” lava. Craters is in central Idaho. Two thousand years ago there was a “hot spot” under the area. I’m talking volcanic here, not internet. As the earth’s crust passed over the hot […]
Jack: What is that noise? Jill: We’re making up a song. Mom has been very inspirational. Jill’s Mom: It’s just for our a-muse-ment. heh heh. Jack: The song is fine, but the inspiration is just muse-ick. Previously in Jack and Jill: For more posts with Song go to Whistle Stop Photohunt For more posts with go to Keyhole Pictures
The time to go is early, or late. By noon the pools are full and the seating dear and all the margaritas are melting like wayward snowmen. Early, all the vacationers are nursing hangovers and late they are partying in town. Go at either time and the only people in the way of leisure are cabana boys. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by […]
1. Cabo San Lucas is at the southern end of the Baja peninsula in Mexico. It’s got the Pacific on one side and a few miles away a huge bay on the other. You’d think it would be tropical. But no. It’s desert. Palm trees, cactus, and lots of dry dirt.
