I’m still not ready to say good bye to summer. There is still a lot I’d like to do – like paint the exterior of the house – that require warm weather. But the trees are all turning, so I guess I better accept that Fall is here. As a send off, here are pictures I took of flowers over the course of Summer From around town: 1.
He was right behind her. Emma walked as fast as she could, too afraid to run because if she did, then Bruce would have an excuse to run, too, and there was no way she could get home before he caught up with her. She concentrated on the crunch of frost under foot and tried to ignore the painful pounding in her heart and the enclosing darkness between each street light.
Check out the music in the sidebar at Carrie Ann Golden’s Redemption site. Too cool. Goes well with the latest twist to her tale. We have too much junk. We were planning on holding a yard sale this month to help get rid of some of it, but between the smoke and the cold ended up skipping. I’m thinking we should maybe give it a try anyway. It hit the mid 60’s today. Surely that’s warm enough? Maybe. There are people around town who have been holding one yard sale after another all summer long. Seems like too much work to me, but if […]

“When did I become so easily frightened,” Jessie said as she shifted her hair to cover bruises she never talks about. “I used to be so good at reading people. Now…” She shakes her head. The hair slides forward, covering all but her frown. “Sometimes I think I’ll never be sure of myself again.” The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a […]
1. Write. I’ve been doing a 100 words per day for 100 days challenge. I’ve got five weeks to go. It doesn’t sound like much, but sitting down to write some fiction every single day for 100 days can be a challenge.
“I can’t do it. I can’t. I just can’t.” Emma caught herself scratching her elbow and made herself stop. She itched all over, and had since even before she and Kate left that old house where Gene lives. “But Emma, you’re really good at it.”
You have to keep an eye on Altonian. He has a way of sneaking the meaning of life, nature of physics, and groan worthy puns into his posts. Technically, I could say we had our first snow weeks ago – if you count what’s on the mountains. The thing is, mountains can have snow in them in the middle of summer, so it’s kind of hard to use them as a definitive line. Instead, I go by my backyard. Along about Tuesday or Wednesday last week I stepped out side in the morning to give The Girl a lift to school because she was running late and found […]

The veterinarian called it “bed rest”. He was not to come out of the cage until the bones all knit. Six weeks of laying about. As if he hadn’t napped enough before. When finally the day came the door swung wide open, but too long away from freedom He didn’t know how to leave. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. “Before we jump for joy over all his connections,” Gene said in a way that made Emma nervous, like he was mad about something or maybe like he didn’t much care for this guy named Bruce. “Let’s see if he’s any good. He’s not a member of the band yet, you know.” He gave Tracy a hard look. “Of course.” Bruce didn’t seem to mind at all. He pulled a keyboard out of his backpack like he’d been expecting this […]
